ADVICE AND SUPPORT
We’re here to listen to, support and protect our 50,000 members (including Life members) whenever and wherever they need us.
Sometimes things can feel overwhelming. Our confidential counselling helpline (call 0800 917 4055) is open around the clock and provides members with emotional support.
We’re on hand to offer expert advice to help members overcome the many challenges of running a school and managing those who work in it. Our highly skilled advice team (call 0300 30 30 333 and choose option one) fields more than 18,000 calls a year from members.
And it regularly publishes a specialised advice article that adds to the wealth of resources we provide on all aspects of school leadership, from employment issues and matters in the classroom to new legislation. Whether that takes the form of a practical framework, model policy, handy guide or useful checklist, NAHT has the tools our members turn to when they need them.

SPOTLIGHT ON SOME OF OUR PARTNERS
Exclusive cybersecurity training for school leaders
Our partner, Concero, is offering exclusive cybersecurity training for school leaders because protecting your school now goes far beyond systems and software.
This focused one-hour session (£160 + VAT), delivered either remotely or in person, equips head teachers and senior leadership teams (SLTs) with the knowledge and confidence to identify risks and take action.
Based on National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) guidance and real school scenarios, it covers the following:
- Passwords and multi-factor authentication
- Phishing threats
- Device security
- Data protection
- Real incidents in schools.
You’ll gain practical, actionable steps to strengthen your school’s cyber resilience.
The need is clear: more than half of primary schools and 70% of secondary schools report breaches, with phishing being the most common attack.
With 92% of schools wanting more training, this session ensures leadership teams are prepared to respond effectively and protect their school communities.
Since 2018, Education Mutual has been transforming how staff absence protection is managed, providing a non-profit making approach that prioritises schools, their budgets and their people. As the UK’s largest member-owned provider of staff absence protection – recommended by the Department for Education through the CPC framework – we provide an ethical alternative to traditional insurance.
Our multi-award-winning service ensures budget certainty while providing access to a wide range of health and well-being services, which are all included at no additional cost and designed to reduce and prevent absences. This includes face-to-face counselling, physiotherapy, 24/7 GP access, flu vaccinations and occupational health support. Pupil well-being support is also part of the package, allowing you to take a comprehensive, whole-school approach to health and well-being.
Our memberships are tailored to meet the unique needs of each school or trust, combining the extensive coverage of the commercial insurance market with a community-driven ethos akin to that of a local authority. Every membership contribution actively supports member schools, with all surpluses reinvested directly back into the education sector where they’re needed most.
How could inheritance tax changes impact you?
A major shift in UK inheritance tax (IHT) rules is approaching, and it could significantly change how your wealth is passed on.
From 6 April 2027, pensions will no longer sit outside of IHT. For many families, this change could result in a potential 40% tax bill on assets they believed were protected.
This change will only apply to defined contribution (DC) schemes. So, defined benefit schemes like the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and Local Government Pension Schemes will not be impacted.
However, if you’ve topped up either of these pensions by making additional voluntary contributions or you have a private pension, these contributions will form part of a DC scheme, which could affect your IHT liability.
Estate planning will be essential in navigating these changes and ensuring your wealth is passed on as intended.
A specialist financial adviser from Wesleyan Financial Services can help to put plans in place to protect your estate for future generations.
Charges may apply. You will not be charged until you have agreed to the services required and the associated costs.
